Citizenship in Transformation

Civic Education

FES Thailand has been part of the Thai Civic Education network since the latter was founded in 2011. The network’s aim is to reform civic education in the country and form the next generation of democratic citizens. It works with a range of stakeholders, such as other civil society organizations, universities and government agencies. The main project involves trainings of teachers in public schools. In addition, public forums are held and a lively discussion on education is conducted nationwide. This approach can build a citizenry that in turn can build an inclusive, democratic and therefore resilient society.

Schools for Civic Engagement

Together with several partners, FES Thailand supports trainings and workshops to encourage civic engagement. The annual School for Investigative Journalism takes in representatives from the civil society, media and other committed citizens. Since 2018 this has been complemented by the School of Tomorrow, a summer school for young Thais. It focusses on all kinds of questions for the future of Thai society – politics, economy, social issues, arts and many other topics are covered in this school. Both schools offer a series of workshops and lectures and the chance to form networks and gain the skills to build a better future for the country.
